Biography

Jumanji Kids Play

The kids play.

While their parents are out at a party, Judy and Peter head outside to play when they discover the Jumanji game with a notice of reading instructions before playing. Despite Peter not wanting to continue after barely escaping the Lion, Judy insists that they must stick to the rules and finish the game to make the consequences disappear. She actually ends up winning the game when her piece reaches the golden city and calling out the city by its name: Jumanji. Once the consequences vanish, the kids take the game and leave it outside, only to be picked up by the children of their parent's guests.

Judy Shepherd was first seen with her younger brother, Peter while moving into Alan's empty house with their Aunt Nora, following the loss of their parents. She refused to admit missing her parents, but their deaths made Judy develop a habit of lying and spreading rumors which led to falling outs with her Aunt.

On their second day of school, Judy and Peter discover "Jumanji" in the attic and decides to play it, triggering the appearances of Mosquitos in the attic and Monkeys in the kitchen and soon meet Alan Parrish after they release both him and a Lion out of the game after Peter rolls a five. Judy and Peter accompanied Alan around Brantford and eventually returned to the Mansion to continue playing the game, but Judy's attempts to roll the dice were ignored since the game needed Sarah Whittle to roll and move her piece to continue playing the game.

Judy, Peter and Sarah battled Van Pelt in Sir-Sav-Alot before Alan arrived and knocked the hunter out for a while. After the Monsoon, in the attic, Alan started sinking in Quicksand until Judy rolled the dice which apparently stopped the floor from depressurising and tried to defend Alan and Sarah when they were trapped in the floor but she was shot by a Purple Flower (which she ironically admired earlier), Peter avenged her but was unable to stop her from collapsing. The brother and sister wished for their parents as their fates were sealed by Alan's winning roll and the alternative timeline undone.

By the end of the film, she is seen with her parents and Peter meeting Alan and Sarah for the first time. Alan and Sarah convince Judy and Peter's parents to cancel their skiing holiday in Canada and start their work for the shoe factory, thus preventing their death in the previous timeline.

An abridged version of Judy Shepherd appears in the animated series, living with her brother Peter and Aunt Nora in the old Parrish Mansion in Brantford. Her persona of lying is repeated from the film while exhibiting the traits of a bossy know-it-all, well learned in school and on occasion searching for potential boyfriends and having her heart broken (only to be exploited by Jumanji's sinister sense of humour). Despite nagging and disgust at Peter's behaviour, she cares for him and Alan and vows to help him find his clue to escape the game, even giving him their late father's pocket knife after regarding Alan as one of their own family. She does not understand the Manji language leaving her at a disadvantage.

  • Tiny Bites (Rhino Totem): The player controls Judy Shepard, alone in the dark attic, swatting away bats and mosquitoes with a tennis racquet, while avoiding spiders, which eat the other enemies but can also harm the player.

Trivia

  • Judy is the only player to roll the dice and release no consequence, as it apparently stopped the Quicksand effects and prevented Alan and Sarah from sinking any further.
  • Scarlett Johansson auditioned for the role of Judy Shepherd.
